Cansu Karaca, Environmental Engineering, University at Buffalo - ITU* '12
After completing my undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering as an Istanbul Technical University – SUNY University at Buffalo dual diploma student in 2012, I started my professional career in a private environment and energy consulting firm. Later, I enrolled at ITU as a graduate student and had the opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary research in the environmental science and energy technologies in order to gain a unique perspective in my career.
I believe that though one’s academic background and skills they acquire through academic studies are crucial factors in their future success, improving our social skills is also as important. The experiences I gained during my time in the ITU-SUNY dual diploma program made my college life meaningful, and definitely helped me prepare for the real world. The opportunity to make friends with individuals coming from all corners of the globe helped me learn about new cultures, expand my horizons and see the World in a different perspective. Thanks to these experiences, I was able to have a discussion about technical subjects as well as conversations about the different cultures I had familiarized myself with at an international conference. Having graduated from an international program at such prestigious institutions as ITU and UB, I am honored to have been transformed into a “global citizen.”
I would like to thank both of my universities for providing me with the necessary personal growth opportunities and the courage to pursue my dreams. The best decision I have made so far in my life was to join the SUNY Dual Diploma family.
