Esra Çeker, TESOL, SUNY Cortland-Anadolu University’2023

For me, studying at Anadolu University-SUNY Cortland dual diploma program is more than two diplomas and an opportunity to study abroad. It was a transformative journey where I gained new perspectives and improved myself personally as well as having education. I consider this as the best decision of my life.

I had two wonderful years of education at SUNY Cortland. My knowledge of English deepened with the linguistic lessons I took during this period. My one-semester observation experience at a high school and the training courses I took made me ready for my teaching career. Especially their humanistic approach to education motivated me even more to become a teacher. Apart from these courses, the optional courses I chose also gave me new perspectives and expanded my general knowledge.

Among the things that make my SUNY Cortland experience special, I can count the work and life experiences I gained there. Being thousands of kilometers away from everything I know and used to, has taken me out of my comfort zone and offered me the opportunity to try new things. My first job was working as an orientation assistant at SUNY Cortland. In addition to some pocket money, I discovered my own limits and made new friends. Thanks to the activities organized by the school, I experienced new things. By making friends from many parts of the world, I had the opportunity to get to know other cultures closely.

If I can, I would still prefer the Anadolu-SUNY Cortland dual diploma program. If there are those who are thinking of preferring this program, I can tell that this experience is worth everything. I will always remember my America experience with a smile on my face.
